RDW approves SELANA Alpha as of July 1, 2025 – a milestone in urban mobility
After six years of intensive development and strict regulatory compliance, SELANA proudly presents the first fully legal full throttle electric scooter in the Netherlands: the SELANA Alpha. This RDW-approved E-scooter will be allowed on bike lanes.
Apple of E-steps
The SELANA Alpha is a high-quality, safe, and sustainable E-scooter that meets all the requirements of the Dutch Special Moped Regulation. With a top speed of 25 km/h and a fully throttle-controlled system, the E-scooter offers an Apple-level experience: sleek, reliable, and user-friendly. Thanks to the license plate on the rear, the E-scooter can be insured, protecting riders from fines that currently can exceed €400.
A Long Road to Legalisation
Founders Max Schalow and Chingiskhan Kazakhstan are extremely proud of this breakthrough. “After six years of hard work and navigating complex regulations, we succeeded in developing an E-scooter that not only meets all safety standards but is truly legal in the Netherlands,” says Max Schalow. Chingiskhan adds, “We want urban mobility to be sustainable and help people leave their cars behind more often. The SELANA Alpha makes this possible by providing a convenient alternative.”
Exclusivity and Vision for the Future
SELANA emphasises that they are the only provider to have achieved this strict approval. “Others have tried and went bust, because meeting all these requirements is a huge challenge and pretty much impossible,” says Max Schalow. SELANA is committed to a future where E-scooters are a fully recognised and safe mode of transport that contributes to cleaner cities and less traffic congestion.
Rollout and Service
To ensure quality and service, SELANA is building a network of dealers and maintenance providers. “We want to avoid the VanMoof story, where customers face long waits and poor service,” says Chingiskhan Kazakhstan. Orders for the SELANA Alpha are now open on a first-come, first-served basis via selana.nl and has already reached tens of thousands of orders in the waiting list.
