SELANA Alpha, de eerste RDW-goedgekeurde legale elektrische step in Nederland

What makes the SELANA Alpha legal?

Three letters: RDW. How the SELANA Alpha became the first e-step with a national type approval, and what that gives you.

"Are you actually allowed to ride that?" It is the question SELANA riders get most. The answer is yes. And it comes down to three letters: RDW.

A special moped

In the Netherlands an e-step is not a bicycle. If you want to ride one on the road, the RDW has to approve it as a special moped (bijzondere bromfiets). We designed the SELANA Alpha for those Dutch requirements from the very first sketch. Six years later it became the first e-step to get a national type approval.

What the RDW checks

  • Brakes: two independent braking systems, so you can always stop in busy traffic.
  • Lights: certified for brightness, colour and position.
  • Strength: the frame and parts are tested hard for durability and safety.

Your own licence plate

Every Alpha has a VIN plate and its own licence plate. That is the proof your step has been approved. We arrange the licence plate when you order, for a one-off EUR 55,00 (EUR 50,00 for the RDW, EUR 5,00 admin).

What it gives you

  • Simply on the road: on the cycle path, without worries.
  • Insured: from day one, for example with ANWB.
  • Freedom: no driving licence needed and no helmet required. You can ride from age 16.
